Focus no. 1

For some time now I've been contemplating on starting a series of photos to compound onto Wee Moments. The obvious hurdle intercepting this project from sprinting ahead was coming up with an interesting theme to drive it. It took me a while but after flicking through my Nov-to-Jan journal pile (or more accurately mountain!), I stumbled across some beautiful images in Kinfolk of their gastronomic feature. The visual allure came from how the layout of the spread not only showcased the dishes but how elements of the food were carefully zoomed in to celebrate the texture, colour and haptic sensation of how the ingredients had transformed.

So I've decided to take an inspirational leaf from their pages to compile my own similar collection. I've dubbed this new project "Focus" considering that's what I'll be doing in essence, closely focusing on small details and idiosyncrasies that draw my gaze.

The maiden image for the Focus series is of the Palais Theatre down by St. Kilda beach. This building is a Melbourne landmark that has managed to remain steadfast in keeping its iconic legacy (through many close call threats of demolition) thanks to the strong attachment of the local residents. There are definite signs of time, but it's the cracked plaster and the odd broken window pane that hold the true charm and allure of this theatre.
